Television Operations Center: Making Connections

​Bob Hamer is the recently hired Audiovisual Engineer for the Television Operations Center (TOC) in the Events Management Branch (EMB) of ORS. The Television Operation Center is the broadcasting nerve center that connects NIH meetings, lectures and events to the NIH Videocast system. These connections can be live from conference rooms, virtual meetings, or any combination of both. Bob and the TOC Team of Rick Marquez, Jon Bennett, and Alex Papadopoulos are committed to the consistent quality and look of each event, coordinated and integrated closed captioning and American Sign Language support, and monitoring each of the broadcast connections to deliver the best possible final products to the NIH community.

Bob came to NIH after a 24-year career in the US Army as a Visual Information Operations Chief. He served around the world and US, such as Seoul, Korea, Norfolk, VA, Sinai, Egypt, San Antonio, TX, Gaeta, Italy, Ft Meade, MD, and Baghdad, Iraq. His many duties included Combat Camera Platoon Sergeant, Broadcast Electronics Instructor, Video TeleConference Manager, Operations Chief, Broadcast technician, photographer / videographer, and Movie Theater manager.

Bob was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and has a Bachelor's in painting from Carnegie-Mellon University. He recently celebrated his 25th wedding anniversary with his wife Jennifer and their two children. 

Bob says what he enjoys most about working at EMB is being a part of the fantastic team of videographers, producers, artists​​​​​ and technicians that support the NIH's vital missions of health care and scientific discovery for the nation and world. We are ORS!​
