Processing the Clinical and Graduate Medical Education Fellows

Do you have a Clinical or Graduate Medical Education (GME) Fellow looking to complete their fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH)? Please be sure to read our full article  with specific details that will help you smoothly guide these fellows and help them receive their DPSAC prescreening clearance for Entry on Duty, and their NIH PIV badge in a timely manner.

By now, the fellow should have been registered and sponsored in the NIH Enterprise Directory (NED) System by the deadline date of May 1, 2022. The Division of Personnel Security & Access Control (DPSAC) will not be able to start the fellow's prescreening without this.

Next steps include checking in on your Clinical Fellows as well, as they must complete DPSAC's prescreening requirements no later than June 1, 2022, which is four weeks prior to their July 1 start date. This includes encouraging them to submit crossmatch fingerprints for prescreening as soon as possible, which can be done via Fieldprint. Feel free to share this article regarding the DPSAC Process Overview to the applicants.

Factor in any additional processing time for Foreign Nationals and any additional processing time required for coordination of rotational duties. ICs should submit a New FTE Case Request to DIS as early as possible, but no later than April 8, 2022. Additionally, those rotating to Walter Reed must have their Position Sensitivity Level elevated to a Tier 3 investigation before they can obtain access to their facility, and this must be done 3 months prior to their anticipated start date. Read more about the Walter Reed Rotations here.

Please help these fellows complete everything necessary for prescreening, so DPSAC can complete the process in a timely manner. Thank you for your assistance in transitioning these fellows into the NIH.
