Meet the Newest Member of Child and Family Program

Susan ​Borst is the newest Child and Family Program Specialist, with the Division of Transportation and Amenities Services (DATS). She is passionate about working with organizations and professionals that value quality children’s programming and are committed to resourcing employees, parents and families. Susan joined the National Institutes of Health in October 2021, having previously served in the private sector as the Director of a non-profit Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) approved nursery program. She has been active in Montgomery County Adult Education as a Parent Educator and was formerly the Coordinator at the Parenting Resource Center at their (Silver Spring and Rockville) Maryland locations. She has also served in the classroom as a special education teacher and elementary school educator in the public and private school sectors. Building strong learning communities and resourcing families have been life-long passions. Throughout her career working with infants to adults, Susan has loved the energy, wonder and excitement of learning, as experienced through the eyes of the young children (and talented staff) she has served.


A native Washingtonian and graduate of the University of Maryland in College Park, with a B.S. in Special Education/Elementary Education for undergraduate studies, her master’s coursework was completed at Trinity College and Johns Hopkins University in the Early Childhood Education field. She continues to be an affiliate member of local and national professional education and leadership organizations. Susan enjoys the outdoors, boating, international travel, volunteer service, artistic outlets, and is a proud mother of three adult children. She has an adventurous spirit, enjoys spending time with her family, and has a very spoiled black Labrador named Brody!
