1. January: Mindful Movement + Virtual Coffee Chat with Leslie

In January, R&W and Wellness at NIH are offering two formats of chair yoga and movement to offer a class is accessible to all ages and ability levels. Stay an extra 10-15 minutes to chat with Leslie about the type of programming you would like to see us ad to the Wellness at NIH offerings in 2024. We want your feedback! See below for details:

Upper Body Seated Flow & Coffee Chat with Leslie

  • Monday, January 8 at 12:00 pm. (30 mins)
  • Chair Yoga is perfect for seniors, office workers and anyone who finds it difficult to sit on the floor or stand for long periods. This class will show you how you can stretch and strengthen the upper body in an effective way.

Lower Body Seated Yoga and Coffee Chat with Leslie

  • Monday, January 22 at 3:00 pm DT (30 mins)
  • Challenge your lower body muscles along with a full body stretch, all while being supported by your chair. This class will focus on core strength and exercises to maintain balance in the lower body, ending with chair yoga to open the hips.

2. ​​Holiday Movement Series Sponsored by the N​​IH Health and Wellness Council

Join our last session, Post-Holiday Hustle: Strengthen & Align the Spine

  • ​Wednesday, January 10 at 12:00 pm

  • This 30-minute class is designed to build postural awareness of the spine for integrity in daily activities. Participants will move through functional positions and execute correct alignment with a focus on the spine for health of the entire body. It’s an educational class not to miss! Participants are encouraged to wear no shoes.

3. Non-Sleep Deep Rest Workshop Series in partnership with R&W Program

This two-part series was a big success, bringing in over 100 attendees for each virtual session. The series ran in November and December 2023 hosted by Leslie Pont and special guest Allison Rose. The topics covered were “The Science of Sleep and Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR),” and also “Sleep Strategies.” Details are below. 


4. Biometric Screenings with Kaiser Mobile Health During American Heart Month​​

February is American Heart Month. On February 8, 2024, Wellness at NIH is bringing Kaiser Permanente’s Mobile Health Vehicle to the NIH Bethesda campus. Screenings will take place from 8:00a to 4:00p. Stay tuned for the parking lot location and the ability to register for your biometric screenings at no cost. Staff will be able to pre-register and get screened for: Blood pressure screening, body mass index (BMI), Diabetes screening - A1C, cholesterol check, health education, and flu vaccine. When we take care of our hearts as part of our self-care, we set an example for others. Making time for self-care can keep your heart healthy. ​5. New! Wellness Resources Guide for On-Demand Programming

An on-demand guide for wellness was developed this fall to offer NIH staff access to “all things wellness related" by topic area, based on previously recorded sessions. Let us know if you like this format. You can also find updated programming on the newly re-designed Wellness at NIH website. Access the programming by topic area in the drop-down menu. Lastly, continue to check out the quarterly newsletter for timely topics, research, upcoming workshops, seasonal recipes, fitness center memberships and more.
