U.S. Surgeon General Takes the Stairs at NIH for New Campaign

The 20th Surgeon General of the United States, Jerome M. Adams, M.D., M.P.H., visited NIH August 1, to walk down 15 flights of stairs in support of the Take the Stairs Campaign and enjoy inspiring artwork recently installed in a Building 10 stairwell.

In partnership with the Commissioned Corps, Medical Arts Branch and Division of Amenities and Transportation Services produced the Take the Stairs Campaign and completed the second phase with a stairwell beautification project. This project encourages employees and patients to "take the stairs" as research indicates that any increase in stair usage can have positive health benefits.

The Surgeon General enjoyed viewing the "inspirational artwork" as he walked down all 15 flights of the project from top to bottom. Surgeon General Adams even posted a tweet about his visit.

This project can be seen in Stairwell 7 located in Building 10, close to Masur Auditorium. The stairwell has statistics, history and information about NIH that viewers can see as they travel up all 15 flights, which equals 302 stairs.

Join NIH in "taking our own best advice" by visiting the Take the Stairs stairwell project or by taking the stairs in your own building.
