Serving the NIH Community

Because of a lapse in government funding, the information on this website may not be up to date, transactions submitted via the website may not be processed, and the agency may not be able to respond to inquiries until appropriations are enacted. The NIH Clinical Center (the research hospital of NIH) is open. For more details about its operating status, please visit cc.nih.gov. Updates regarding government operating status and resumption of normal operations can be found at opm.gov.

New Portal Serves Foreign National Scientists

The Division of International Services (DIS) launched the DIS Customer Portal in December 2022! Since launching, DIS has added several new features to the DIS Customer Portal to streamline the case submission process for Administrative Staff and Foreign Nationals. In the future, the DIS Customer Portal will be the main tool used for submitting case documents and requests to DIS.

The DIS Customer Portal provides access to detailed information regarding the immigration status of Foreign National (FN) Scientists in the NIH Visiting Program. This feature of the portal allows administrative staff and foreign national scientists to see real-time updates on the status of their cases. Additionally, ICO administrative staff can run a Term Report to learn not-to-exceed dates of FN scientists within their ICO. The DIS Customer Portal guide is available on the DIS website to help IC Administrative Staff navigate the new system.

Another feature of the DIS Customer Portal allows administrative staff and foreign national scientists to submit certain request types without completing PDF forms and/or submitting through the DIS Case Submission SharePoint or Secure Email and File Transfer (SEFT). The following are currently available request types in the DIS Customer Portal. Detailed descriptions of request types are available in the portal.

  • Change of Address
  • Continuation
  • Dependent DS-2019 (only scientists can submit)
  • Extended Absence from NIH
  • J-1 Transfer Out
  • New Immigration Documents
  • Outside Activity
  • Remote Check-In (only administrative staff can submit)
  • Termination/Separation (only administrative staff can submit)

Other features of the customer portal are still in development and will be rolled out soon. More information will be provided as new features and case types are added. We are confident that the DIS Customer Portal will serve as a great resource to our administrative and scientific community.
