Division of Amenities and Transportation Services (DATS) is pleased to introduce two new enhancements to the NIH Shuttle program that were implemented in November 2015:

  • A six-month pilot shuttle route from Fishers Lane to the NIH Main Campus in Bethesda
  • Installation of three additional shuttle information kiosks on the NIH Main Campus

Fishers Lane Shuttle

In partnership with NIAID, DATS launched a new shuttle route to better service our colleagues at Fishers Lane in Rockville. On November 9, 2015, a new “Fishers Lane Shuttle” began service from Fishers Lane to the following stops on the main campus: Building 31A, Building 10/North, and the Metro (outside the NIH gate). The Fishers Lane Shuttle will be piloted for six months and is open to all NIH staff.

The Fishers Lane Shuttle schedule can be found at: http://www.ors.od.nih.gov/pes/dats/NIHShuttleServices/Documents/FisherLaneBlue.pdf.

All other shuttle schedules can be found on the NIH Shuttle Main page at: http://www.ors.od.nih.gov/pes/dats/nihshuttleservices/Pages/shuttle.aspx.

Did you know that you can obtain arrival times and real-time status information for the Fishers Lane Shuttle, as well as for all other NIH shuttles? To view arrival times and status updates, vist: http://wttsshuttle.com/.  This helpful tool can keep you one step ahead as you plan your business around the NIH. We strongly encourage you to check the status of shuttles because traffic on the campus and surrounding areas may impact shuttle schedules. The site is mobile optimized and displays all NIH shuttle routes. For specific status information for the new pilot, choose the “Fishers Lane” option.

Please direct questions and comments concerning this shuttle route to the Program Manager, Ms. Louise Davis, DATS, ORS, at davislou@mail.nih.gov.

Expansion of NIH Shuttle Kiosks

In October 2014, DATS rolled out a pilot to replace outdated LED display signs with an interactive touch-screen kiosk in Building 31, A Wing. The 508-compliant kiosk gives customers quick access to:

  • Shuttle schedule timetables
  • Real-time arrivals and maps
  • Metro and Ride On Bus service delays and maps
  • NIH campus map

In addition to the information displayed on the touch screen, the kiosk provides voice commands for the vision impaired and a braille keyboard for the deaf and hard of hearing communities.

Based on positive feedback, the pilot expanded to include three additional shuttle kiosks at the following NIH locations: Building 10/South; Building 45 (Natcher); and the Gateway Visitor Center. The information available on the kiosks has also been expanded to include an employee directory (updated nightly from NED) to allow users to quickly search for staff on campus and locate their building, room and phone numbers. The kiosk at the Gateway Visitor Center is enabled to allow users to choose the option to obtain information in Spanish.

To report any issues, concerns, or comments concerning the shuttle kiosks, please contact the NIH Parking Office at nihparkingoffice@ors.od.nih.gov or (301) 496-5050.
