Who We Are
The NIH Occupational Medical Service (OMS) and the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) have long served the NIH workforce through the provision of a variety of work-related medical and counseling services. Acupuncture has been an adjunct to support the NIH community in Bethesda for a decade, helping staff cope with intense work, including occupational stressors or injuries.
Program Goal
With this service we hope to bring relief to symptoms which may affect staff's ability to perform job duties and thereby improve job productivity and satisfaction. Acupuncture has been a useful addition to treating increased stress and tension, musculoskeletal pain (from acute or repetitive injury), headaches and migraines, environmental allergies, burnout, job fatigue and poor concentration.
Two Eligibility Pathways to Participate
NIH employees need a referral by an OMS clinician or an EAP consultant. Staff working in biocontainment labs and associated areas, the NIH Clinical Center in patient care, or serving as a first responders may self-refer for an acupuncture appointment.
Those eligible to self-refer should call OMS directly to schedule an appointment with the acupuncturist and identify themselves as healthcare personnel, first responders or lab personnel enrolled in the Biosecurity Program.
To Schedule
Call OMS at 301-496-4411 to request a consultation with the OMS acupuncturist, currently available in our Bethesda office located on the 6th floor in Building 10.
Privacy
OMS resides within the Office of Research Services (ORS). Your health information is protected and private as per the OMS Notice of Privacy Practices.
