Metro Updates Their Lost & Found Policy

Lost Something on the Metro or NIH shuttle?

If you happen to misplace an item while traveling on the Metro, there's no need to fret! There's a chance that it may be recovered and returned to you. Metro has recently revised its lost and found policy to encompass a wider range of items that are left behind on trains, buses, and at stations and other Metro facilities. In addition to wallets and electronics such as phones, tablets, laptops and cameras, the lost and found department will now also work to reunite customers with lost keys, glasses, backpacks, headphones, luggage and purses. However, perishables, clothing, umbrellas and bikes will not be kept by the lost and found. Non-returnable items, and any other property unclaimed after 30 days will be disposed of, donated to charity, destroyed or auctioned off.

If the owner of the lost item is easily identifiable, such as by a license or tag, Metro will make every effort to contact the customer to notify them that their property has been turned in. Lost belongings may be picked up in person or you can pay to have items mailed. Metro's Lost and Found Office has moved to a new location at 4000 Garden City Drive, 8th floor, Suite 804, Hyattsville, MD 20782. The office is located next to the New Carrollton Metro Station on the Orange Line and is open Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. excluding holidays. Customers may contact Metro to report lost items online or by calling 202-962-1195. Metro will try to reunite customers with their lost belongings if found. Items are usually turned in to the lost and found office at the end of the workday and may take additional time to catalog and process. For more information, visit https://wmata.com/lostandfound.
