As part of NIH's ongoing implementation of VisitNIH, part of the Visitor Access Management Initiative, NIH is providing updates about VisitNIH.
Visit Request Submission Deadlines
- NIH still strongly recommends that non-U.S. person visitors complete the pre-registration process 30 days in advance to allow for the gathering of information and addressing of any potential errors in submissions.
- When completing the VisitNIH pre-registration process, HHS policy requires that non-U.S. person visitors submit the pre-registration form more than 10-full business days in advance of the event start date. Weekends, holidays, the date of the visit and partial days do not count as a full business day.
- Invitations should be sent no earlier than 60 days prior to the visit start date. HHS has made it clear that they do not wish to review requests for visitors who are not expected on campus within that timeframe.
Visitor's Pre-Registration Status
- Check the VisitNIH pre-registration portal daily to see the latest status of visit requests you are helping to coordinate. You can quickly monitor approvals and any updates directly in the pre-registration portal event and determine if you need to follow up with your visitor to complete the form or correct any issues.
- When a request status indicates “Pending Approval" / 1- Pre-Review: Approved" it means that the request has been submitted to HHS. This means the request has moved onto the next stage, and you should not do anything to alter the request. This does not expedite the request. This will reset the request and cause delays.
