Do You or Your Employees Wear a Respirator

Respirator

Did you know that the Occupational Medical Service (OMS) must medically clear all NIH employees that require respirator use?

Did you know that respirator fit testing (e.g. N-95 respirator) and training, must be completed upon initial enrollment in the NIH Respiratory Protection Program and every 12 months thereafter?

Considering all the potential hazards associated with our research environment, failure to complete medical clearance, fit testing and training can have disastrous consequences.

The NIH Respiratory Protection Program establishes uniform procedures, in accordance with the OSHA Standards, 29 CFR Part 1910.134, Respiratory Protection, for the appropriate selection, use, and care of respiratory protective equipment for NIH employees.

The Division of Occupational Health and Safety (DOHS), Technical Assistance Branch, provides administrative management for the NIH Respiratory Protection Program.

For more information on the NIH Respiratory Protection Program, contact DOHS at (301) 496-2960 or visit: http://go.usa.gov/cJrXA
