As of July 22, 2026, the Division of Personnel Security (DPS) Status Portal is live! The DPS Status Portal lets applicants track and view the status of their background investigation and where they stand in the investigation process.
How do I access the portal?
Applicants going through a background investigation will receive login instructions by email as part of the Prescreening and/or Enrollment process.
- Existing NIH badge (PIV card) holders: Log in directly with your PIV card
- New applicants without a badge: Create an account using Login.gov
What information will I see once logged in?
- In-Progress: Action items still needed from you, so you can anticipate upcoming communications from DPS.
- Complete: Action items you have finished, along with next steps toward receiving your NIH badge.
