As of April 20, 2026, the NIH Division of Personnel Security (DPS) main office (Building 31, Room 1B03) located on the main campus in Bethesda, MD has been operating with extended hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. On the last Thursday of every month only, the DPS main office will be closed from 12:00PM to 1:00PM for staff training sessions and events. DPS is closed on all federal holidays and follows U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) guidance for weather related closures or delays.
During operating hours, customers may receive help desk assistance as well as credentialing support (e.g., badge enrollment, fingerprinting, badge issuance and badge maintenance). Customers are recommended to make appointments with DPS Monday through Friday during operating hours. While walk-ins may be accepted based on availability, DPS will give priority to individuals with scheduled appointments.
