Custom Information Solutions at the NIH Library

Did you know that the NIH Library can help you translate your research challenges into intelligent information solutions? The Library’s Custom Information Solutions (CIS) service brings together information science and technology expertise with services and resources available through the Library to develop information solutions for research groups at NIH.

The Library’s CIS service specializes in Drupal development and has a FEDRAMP-compliant cloud hosting solution. The CIS team’s expertise in website dev­elopment, data management, information architecture and project management enable them to create and deliver innovative products and services including:

  • Information access and management, user experience, and contract support consultation
  • Database architecture design
  • Taxonomy development guidance
  • Interactive portfolios for research grant funding analysis
  • Virtual collaborative repositories for scientific collaboration
  • Networks for expertise mining and research collaboration

The NIH Library’s Custom Information Solutions service has worked in partnership with several NIH institutes and centers on a variety of projects, including the following:

  • Interagency Collaborative to Advance Research in Epilepsy (ICARE): https://icarerp.nih.gov/. Portfolio of epilepsy research projects funded by public and nonprofit organizations in the United States.
  • International Alzheimer’s Disease Research Portfolio (IADRP): http://iadrp.nia.nih.gov. Portfolio of Alzheimer’s disease grant funding data from more than 35 public and private organizations that allows users to search, export, and analyze grant funding data.
  • Alzheimer’s Disease Preclinical Efficacy Database (AlzPED): http://alzped.nia.nih.gov. Database of published and unpublished preclinical studies aimed to promote efficiency, reproducibility, and accuracy of preclinical therapy development for Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Access to Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and Commercial/Government Datasets. Consultations to help you take advantage of existing APIs and data tools (like PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science), assistance with purchasing data, and consultations on evaluating specialty analysis tools.
  • Digitization of Government Publications. Digitization support, including identification of requirements, process recommendations, assistance with the contracting and evaluation process, and digitization workflow management.
