Celebrating Building 10A's Long Term Camaraderie Amongst Peers

Building 10A would like to recognize the following individuals for their long-standing dedication, all having started in 10A prior to the year 2000, and for their personal and professional commitment to help ensure the long-term vitality and success of our mission to contribute to and support the advancement of NIH intramural biomedical research by providing excellence in animal care and specialized research services. 

Marvin Bermudez has worked in the Building 10A Animal Facility for over 31 years, having started here in March of 1992.  Marvin is currently our 3rd Floor Supervisor, is Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certified, and has contributed to our operations over the years by also serving as Receiving Tech, Assistant Floor Supervisor, Animal Caretaker and Cagewash Tech.  Marvin is well known for his calm demeanor, dependability and assisting others when needed.

Matthew Tenace has worked in the Building 10A Animal Facility for over 30 years, having started here in January of 1993.  Matt is currently our Project Manager, is Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) certified, and has contributed to our operations over the years by also serving as Assistant Project Manager, Vet Tech, 3rd Floor Supervisor, Environmental Technician and Animal Caretaker. Matt is well known for his ability to fix almost anything…“If it's broken or you can't figure out how it works – call "Matt,“ as well as for his genuine care and concern for others and for his problem-solving skills.    

Jackie Hoover has worked in the Building 10A Animal Facility for over 30 years, having started here in March of 1993.  Jackie is currently one of our Research Assistants, is Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG), Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT), Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certified, and has contributed to our operations over the years by also serving as 3rd Floor Supervisor and Animal Caretaker.  Jackie is known for her friendliness and good interpersonal relationships with lab staff and co-workers.    

Jennifer Concannon has worked in Building 10A Animal Facility for over 30 years, having started here in April of 1993.  Jennifer is currently our Assistant Project Manager/QA Manager and is a Certified Manager of Animal Resources (CMAR), Registered Laboratory Animal Technologist (RLATG), Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT), as well as having received her certificate of completion of ILAM (Institute of Laboratory Animal Management).   Jennifer is proud of two significant contributions she has made, which created positive change for our facility, by identifying the need, not only to support the research staff in their studies with technical procedure assistance, but also for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of staff practices and animal husbandry procedures, by unifying and standardizing a first ever training program in 10A.  With approval and buy-in from the Government Project Officer, the Contract Operations Manager, Contract Manager, and overwhelming support of researchers from various institutes within 10A, Jennifer was able to create, pioneer and pilot two key supportive and monumental positions now currently established, and pillars of 10A – Research Assistant and Facility Trainer.  Jennifer has contributed to our operations over the years by serving as Facility Trainer, Research Assistant, Veterinary Technician, 2nd Floor Supervisor and 4th Floor Supervisor.  Jennifer is best known for her attention to detail, organization, communication and for follow-ups.     

William Givens has worked in the Building 10A Animal Facility for over 30 years, having started here in June of 1993.  William is currently our Data Management Specialist who takes care of our animal imports and exports, helps to manage and maintain our Edstrom system and partners with others in running the front office by answering phones, greeting visitors and monitoring the phone-video intercom system for facility access control.  William has contributed to our operations over the years by also serving as Receiving Tech and Animal Caretaker.   William is best known for his kindness and willingness to volunteer and help others when needed, such as working in cagewash and even moving furniture.  

Teresa Smith-Lane has worked in the Building 10A Animal Facility for over 28 years, having started here in June of 1995.  Teresa is currently one of our Animal Caretaker II's and is Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certified and has contributed to our operations over the years by also serving as an Animal Caretaker I and Cagewash Technician.  Teresa enjoys helping the research and 10A tech staff to wean animals and assisting with ear tagging.  Teresa is best known for keeping her rooms and areas of work always very clean and organized. 

Debbie Simon has worked in the Building 10A Animal Facility for 28 years, having started here in October of 1995.  Debbie is currently one of our Research Assistants, is Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) and Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) and Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certified, and has contributed to our operations over the years by also serving as ACT II and ACT I.  Debbie is best known for her calm demeanor and genuine willingness to be accommodating to all.     

Rafael Bermudez has worked in the Building 10A Animal Facility for over 26 years, having started here in May of 1997.  Rafael is currently our Cagewash Supervisor, is Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certified, and has contributed to our operations over the years by also serving as Receiving Tech, Floater, ACT II, Animal Caretaker I and Cagewash Technician.  Rafael is an expert in the function and mechanical operations of all cagewash equipment – he knows the equipment like the back of his hand.  Rafael is best known for his dependability, quick response time when he is needed and for his problem-solving skills.   

Jose Argueta has worked in the Building 10A Animal Facility for over 26 years, having started here in July of 1997.  Jose is currently one of our Veterinary Technicians (IV), is Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certified, and has contributed to our operations over the years by also serving as the Floater, Animal Caretaker II, Animal Caretaker I and Cagewash Technician.  Jose is best known for his dependability, quickness to respond to animal health cases and his fun-hearted nature. 

Adonay Martinez has worked in the Building 10A Animal Facility for nearly 24 years, having started here in December of 1999.  Adonay is currently one of our Veterinary Technicians II (Weaning Tech), is Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certified, and has contributed over the years by also serving as Animal Caretaker II, Animal Caretaker I and Cagewash Technician.   Adonay is best known for always smiling.  ​
