Dr. Johnson, ORS Director, participating in Take a Hike Day
The Division of Amenities and Transportation Services (DATS) and the NIH Office of Management will host the 9th Annual Take a Hike Day on Thursday, June 2, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Join invited guests, Dr. Francis Collins and Ms. Shellie Pfohl, Executive Director of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition, in front of Building 1. All NIH staff are invited to walk or run around the perimeter of the NIH campus (approximately 3.25 miles from start to finish) – rain or shine.
This year’s event also serves to launch the U.S. Surgeon General’s “Step it Up” campaign at the NIH. Commissioned Corps officers at NIH are responding to Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy’s call to action to promote walking and walkable communities by promoting taking the stairs at NIH workplaces. Make every day a “Take a Hike Day” by taking the stairs and “Step it Up!”
Meet your co-workers and make new friends while exercising and taking in the sights. To register, go to: http://www.ors.od.nih.gov/pes/dats/wellness/hike/Pages/hike.aspx.
There will also be Take a Hike Day activities at various off-campus locations. Although all staff members are encouraged to participate, please obtain your supervisor’s approval before registering. Take a Hike Day is a voluntary event.
Show your team spirit and sponsor a water station! Tables and water are supplied – you provide the volunteers and enthusiasm. If you would like to sponsor a water station and show your IC spirit, please contact Ms. Michelle Aikens at Aikensm@mail.nih.gov or (301) 402-8180. Tables will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.
