Pedestrian Entrance Closing September 30, 2018

The West Gateway Visitor Center pedestrian entrance, off Old Georgetown Road, near the South Drive vehicle entrance, will close permanently at the end of the fiscal year, on September 30, 2018.

The Center is in need of significant maintenance and repair and would have closed for 6-8 months. Due to these major and costly renovations, along with years of underutilization and dedicating resources to operate a lightly-used facility , the ORS, in consultation with NIH Leadership, decided to close West Gateway permanently.

The area along Old Georgetown Road and the entire exterior of campus will continue to be serviced by the NIH Campus Perimeter Shuttle. The shuttle operates from 6:30am – 8:45am and again from 4:30pm – 7:30pm, Monday – Friday, with frequent stops available to employees, visitors and the general public along all borders of the NIH property.
