Harold Woods

Division of Emergency Management (DEM)

Harold Woods is originally from Baltimore, Maryland and serves as an Emergency Dispatch Supervisor for the Division of Emergency Management (DEM) at the National Institutes of Health.  He first came to the NIH in 2010 and has been able to professionally evolve and grow into many professional spaces around the campus.  He and his team have recently been working to develop a training program that aims to help onboard new employees within DEM. He enjoys the comradery and positive outcomes of working with his current team.

“I like the people that I work with, the people that I oversee and the people that oversee me.  We have a really good teamwork type of relationship, and we support one another."

He marks being promoted as supervisor as one of his proudest career moments.  He earned this honor in 2023.  “It proved that my hard work paid off and that I was seen to be elevated."  He also enjoys relishing in the scope of camerawork and would have dived into the world of photography as a career if he didn't already love his work at the NIH.

His motivation comes from his four-year-old son and the opportunity to get to travel around the world.  “If I had one thing to do for the rest of my life, I would travel."

Lourdes Murphy Garcia

Division of Quality Management & Policy (DQMP)

Lourdes Murphy Garcia is an Industrial Engineer with The Division of Quality Management & Policy (DQMP).  She wears multiple hats and dives into work ranging from supporting project management, scheduling, process improvement and consulting.  She first learned about the NIH shortly before the pandemic and soon found an interest in the work that was taking place at the NIH.

Her favorite project has been supporting the Building 68 West Drive Entrance project.  The West Drive Entrance is frequented by patients and visitors that utilize the services on the campus like the Clinical Center (Building 10) and the Childrens' Inn.  During this project, efforts were made to improve the area, upgrading the security process, and working to enhance the entire visitor experience.

What she enjoys most about ORS is the people.  “It motivates me that I can still have fun. I still want to continue meeting people here. “

Lourdes is from Adjuntas, Puerto Rico and believes that if she were in another career field, she would be an actress. She's motivated by her family and opportunity of building an experience where she can travel and see loved ones both within the United States and in the Caribbean.

Terry Black

Occupational Medical Services (OMS)

Terry Black grew up in New Jersey and has spent nearly the last 29 years with the NIH.  She is a Physical Therapist for Occupational Medical Services (OMS).  In this role she helps to support staff members that have been hurt on the job.

She first learned about the NIH after hearing about the services needed on the campus from a colleague.  Looking back on her career choices, she is happy with her decision to come to ORS.  “I love the career I choose.  I had lots of options.  I thought about being a medical doctor, a surgeon, and I ended up picking the one that fit all of the types of things that I was good at."

She loves animals and helping people solve problems.  The euphoria that comes from interpersonal relationships with people is one of the reasons why she enjoys being in spaces where she gets to interact and connect with people from various backgrounds.

“It's very rewarding to say I have a skill that can help people."

Outside of work Terry spends time outdoors.  She is a hiker and biker, and in addition has two dogs that keep her on her feet.
