Every summer NIH participates in the Feds Feed Families (FFF) summer food drive. This year, the food drive kicked off on June 14 and after only nine short weeks, NIH has already received approximately 16,000 pounds of non-perishable and virtual donations and $6,061 in vouchers through the NIH Fighting Hunger Voucher Program!

This year’s FFF campaign is being coordinated by Shrylnee Speed. Ms. Speed is coordinating efforts to collect, sort, weigh and distribute donated goods to the Capital Area Food Bank, the Children’s Inn and the Safra Family Lodge. (The Capital Area Food Bank is no longer accepting pet food donations. All pet food donations will be forwarded to animal rescue shelters in the DC Metropolitan region).

There are several ways you can participate in the FFF campaign. You can donate items at any of the on- or off-campus locations or you can buy vouchers in any of the following NIH cafeterias or cafes:

  • Building 10 ACRF (2nd Floor)
  • Building 10 (B1 level)
  • Building 31
  • Building 35A
  • Building 45
  • Building 1 Café
  • Building 10 Au Bon Pain Cafe

The Capital Area Food Bank has provided a way for you to make virtual donations as another alternative to donating non-perishable goods. Every $1 is equal to three pounds of food. To make a virtual donation, visit: https://www.capitalareafoodbank.org/donate-meals/. To ensure that NIH receives credit, please send donation confirmation receipts to FedsFeedFamiliesNIH@mail.nih.gov and list NIH as the organization when making your donation through the Capital Area Food Bank website.

The NIH has less than a month left to reach its desired goal of 31,000 pounds before the campaign closes out on August 31. We appreciate your continued support and look forward to reporting numbers closer to NIH’s overall goal. Please donate!
