Elimination of Bicycle Voucher Program

On December 22, 2017, the president signed into law the tax reform package, “Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.”  The Act made significant changes to employee benefit plans by amending certain sections of the Internal Revenue Code, Section 132 (f) (https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-drop/rr-14-32.pdf).  This new amendment eliminated the bicycle commuter benefit.  As of January 1, 2018, NIH stopped providing a bicycle subsidy, affecting 145 NIH bicycle members.

We encourage our bicyclist community to continue to hit the trails and the Division of Amenities and Transportation Services (DATS) is here to help.  Employees also have the option to apply for Transhare benefits (https://www.ors.od.nih.gov/transhare), which are exclusive to the National Capital Region and Baltimore areas. Parking permits for the NIH Campus may also be requested.

If you have any questions or need assistance with enrollment, please contact the Employee Transportation Services Office, DATS at nihparkingoffice@ors.od.nih.gov or 301-496-5050.
