AlertNIH - the Official Emergency Communication Service for NIH

Did you know there is an emergency communication service for NIH staff that will alert you when there is a major crisis, emergency, severe weather or natural disaster event potentially impacting your work.

During a possible emergency, AlertNIH will send event updates, warnings and instructions directly to employees' government-owned communication devices. Employees can also opt-in to receive these updates on their personal devices. To receive these messages on personal devices, staff – including FTEs, contractors, fellows, etc. -- must enroll their personal device after they have onboarded.

NIH employees are strongly encouraged to update their NED profiles. To enroll or modify your personal device, follow these steps:

  • Select “Update Your Information" on the left navigation
  • On the Left Navigation, select, “Self Service – My Record"
  • In the top right corner, select “Edit"
  • Select the tab titled, “Personal"
  • Scroll down to the section titled, “Manage AlertNIH Notifications" and add your personal phone number(s) and email(s)
  • Select the “Next" button and “Submit" your changes

Staff can also download the AtHoc Mobile App through the Apple App Store or Google Play to receive free AlertNIH alert notifications through their mobile devices.

For more information or if you have questions about the AlertNIH service, please visit the DEM AlertNIH website or contact DEM at orsdem@nih.gov or 301-496-1985.

Thank you for better preparing yourself for a workplace emergency and supporting services that protect the life, property and environment of the NIH.
